Evard frequently engages with the motif of the peony. The lovely flower usually only lasts a few days in the vase and is considered particularly desirable due to its delicacy and fullness. The fragility of this flower is thematized on several levels in this white-pastel work. Firstly, in the reduced and discreet coloring, but also in the restrained contouring, which allows the individual elements to almost merge with the background.
