Cette \u0153uvre illustre \u00e9galement de mani\u00e8re impressionnante des roses couch\u00e9es. Les deux \u0153uvres \u00ab Roses couch\u00e9es \u00bb et \u00ab Pivoines dans une lumi\u00e8re orang\u00e9e \u00bb datent de 1919 et montrent l\u2019intensit\u00e9 avec laquelle Evard se consacre \u00e0 la nature morte florale durant cette phase \u2013 toutefois dans un langage pictural de plus en plus moderne et ax\u00e9 sur la couleur. Sur le plan th\u00e9matique, elles partagent des formes florales luxuriantes qu\u2019Evard interpr\u00e8te de fa\u00e7on moins naturaliste qu\u2019atmosph\u00e9rique et picturale.
\n\u00ab Roses couch\u00e9es \u00bb utilise une palette de couleurs vari\u00e9e et l\u00e9g\u00e8rement att\u00e9nu\u00e9e, compos\u00e9e de tons ros\u00e9s, jaunes et verts. L\u2019ambiance y est calme et les fleurs se d\u00e9tachent plus nettement de l\u2019arri\u00e8re-plan.
\nEn revanche, \u00ab Pivoines dans une lumi\u00e8re orang\u00e9e \u00bb semble baign\u00e9 dans une lumi\u00e8re chaude, presque incandescente. Les tons jaunes, orang\u00e9s et dor\u00e9s y dominent, conf\u00e9rant \u00e0 l\u2019ensemble du champ pictural une intensit\u00e9 lumineuse, presque monochromatique. Ce rayonnement fait fusionner davantage les formes entre elles et cr\u00e9e un effet presque symboliste.
\nCes deux peintures illustrent parfaitement l\u2019\u00e9volution d\u2019Evard apr\u00e8s la Premi\u00e8re Guerre mondiale (1914 \u2013 1918), lorsqu\u2019il s\u2019est tourn\u00e9 davantage vers les tendances modernes. Alors que \u00ab Roses couch\u00e9es \u00bb se rattache encore \u00e0 la nature morte traditionnelle tout en travaillant d\u00e9j\u00e0 sur une simplification chromatique, cette \u0153uvre va plus loin : la couleur y devient la v\u00e9ritable protagoniste et annonce le chemin d\u2019Evard vers un langage formel plus libre et de plus en plus abstrait.
