A Swiss Modernist Painter

Sunset, 1964, Oil on hardboard, 26.5 x 40.5 cm

Sunset, 1964

The sunset, with its play of colors, was a popular motif for Evard. He depicted it at various times, similar to Monet with his views of Rouen Cathedral. Unlike Monet, Evard’s sunsets exhibit more expressionistic features with unusual color combinations. Furthermore, constructivist tendencies can be observed, as he arranges the sun’s glow in concentric semicircles and juxtaposes red and green as complementary contrasts.
