In 1932, André Evard created a very unusual series of works that differed from his previous work and his entire oeuvre. In this series, as in his previous serial works, he experimented with different colours. For the background, he chose a specific colour for each one – so that there is a white, a black and a red version of the “Composition Abstraite”, respectively. He superimposed geometric shapes on the coloured background, presenting them in different arrangements, and thus changing the perception of space in each picture. He deals with rectangles, triangles and L-shaped elements predominantly.

With these works, André Evard illustrates hisartistic commitment to Suprematism, the highest form of representational painting. His constructions are based on small paper collages so that he can experiment with different compositions.
