Tree with Fence, 1957

Pink, green, and yellow: the painter uses his favorite colors to create this landscape depiction from 1957. It shows a meadow with several trees, in the center of which stands a pink flowering tree, flanked on the right and left by two light green trees. Black birds have gathered under the trees, and a fence can be seen in the background. The sky, also designed in pink and green in an impressionistic manner, is dominated by a white cloud in the upper center. In the lower part of the picture, yellow fruits, also placed centrally, complete the picture. With black contour lines, Evard draws the outlines of trees, leaves, fruits, and clouds, the surfaces are designed with clearly recognizable brushstrokes, which create a loose pattern in the area of the meadow, the white seems to shine through: the result is a work with a sketch-like character. The combination of pastel shades, the symmetrical composition, and the airiness of the painting style create an image that exudes lightness and evokes the temperate spring season for the viewer.
