SPACE AND TIME
1924
oil on canvas
34,5 x 23,5 cm

In the same year as “Composition”, the work “Espace et temps” was created, which is very similar in terms of colour spectrum and harmoniously combines figurative and abstract elements.

Evard dispenses here with a central positioning of the pictorial elements and occupies the vertical central axis with a prism-shaped window. Instead, he focuses his attention on the right and left sides of the picture. Particularly striking in the lower left-hand corner of the work is the antique-looking vase, which contains flower-like stems, whereas in the upper right-hand corner of the picture a clock can be seen, which despite its technical construction is also reminiscent of a flower. What is also exciting about this work is that the spatial structure appears to be fragmented and shifts diagonally.
