Vase of Flowers, 1918

The depiction of bouquets has a rich tradition in art history. The bouquet enjoyed great popularity, especially in Dutch still life painting of the 17th century. Evard also draws on the bouquet in this tradition and presents it in an environment characterized by constructivist influences.

The construction of the shadow of the vase and the placement of the vase in the right corner of the table, as well as the rays of light falling into the picture from the left, suggest Evard’s constructivist works.
