Le tableau pr\u00e9sente une sc\u00e8ne silencieuse et atmosph\u00e9rique, trait\u00e9e dans des tons de gris feutr\u00e9s. Au premier plan se trouve une bande de rive sombre qui d\u00e9limite clairement l\u2019image vers le bas et assure la transition vers une \u00e9tendue d\u2019eau calme. Le plan d\u2019eau semble lisse comme un miroir et renforce l\u2019ambiance paisible de l\u2019\u0153uvre. Au-dessus de l\u2019horizon d\u00e9gag\u00e9 s\u2019ouvre un vaste ciel, au centre duquel flotte un grand nuage model\u00e9 de mani\u00e8re plastique. Ses nuances plus claires forment un contraste marquant avec la palette de couleurs retenue de l\u2019environnement. De petits fragments de nuages l\u2019accompagnent et soulignent l\u2019immensit\u00e9 du ciel nocturne. L\u2019ensemble de la composition para\u00eet ordonn\u00e9, \u00e9quilibr\u00e9 et d\u00e9gage un calme profond.
\nChronologiquement, l\u2019\u0153uvre s\u2019inscrit dans une phase o\u00f9 Evard \u2014 l\u2019un des premiers repr\u00e9sentants de l\u2019art construit et concret en Suisse \u2014 continuait de travailler entre abstraction et figuration. Dans les ann\u00e9es 1950 et 1960, il privil\u00e9giait une palette de couleurs r\u00e9duite et harmonieuse ainsi que des structures \u00e9pur\u00e9es, ce qui se refl\u00e8te \u00e9galement dans ce paysage. Le langage visuel sobre et concentr\u00e9 est en ad\u00e9quation avec les tendances artistiques de l\u2019apr\u00e8s-guerre, qui privil\u00e9giaient le calme, l\u2019ordre et la clart\u00e9 au d\u00e9triment du drame expressif.
