A Swiss Modernist Painter

Phoebus, 1955, oil on hardboard, 64 x 49 cm

Phoebus, 1955

This painting can be seen in line with the work “Intérieur”. It is interesting to note that Evard conceived the first version of this pictorial object in a constructivist manner and then returned to the purely figurative representation. The title of the work is “Phoebus”. Phoebus is another name for the Greek god Apollo. Among other things, he was the god of light and the arts.

In this painting, the light is depicted in different ways. On the one hand, we can see the incidence of light in the bright panes of the window. On the other hand, narrow triangles cut through the entire picture like rays of light, creating the impression of light reflections.
