This still life depicts a bouquet of pink, white, and rose-colored roses in a round vase with a flared opening. The flower heads, as well as the green leaves, protrude from the vase in such a way that they diagonally dominate the pictorial space. The vase is positioned in the center of the image, yet it is quite close to the edge of the table on which it rests. The edge of the table, extending towards the lower right corner, creates a diagonal line that runs contrary to the floral arrangement. Although the light source appears to emanate from the upper left corner of the image, a radial play of shadows in various color nuances fans out across the tabletop towards the foreground.
These are broken by the front edge of the table and converge again towards the center of the image. A few of the green plant leaves are also surrounded by a brightly luminous edge.
This creates an almost surreal atmosphere, revealing constructivist influences.
