André Evard’s blue evening mood presents itself in nuanced shades of blue and green with a wildly agitated sky, whose arabesque clouds in the centre of the picture are painted flatly. In the upper part of the picture, on the other hand, they pile up into a pastose, dark green cloud formation. Their compositional counterpart can be found in the lower part of the painting, where André Evard creates a small forest, using the same colour and the same impasto brushwork. The artistic refinement he demonstrates here emphasises the two-dimensional character of the work.

In this picture, which was painted in 1961 and is characterised by its ornamental flatness, Evard tackles his Art Nouveau-like early work. The cool, dramatic colouring and the diffuse light evoke a mystical mood that captivates the viewer.
