Dark clouds in front of blue-red mountains, 1962

This work testifies to Evard’s deep connection with nature. It shows a view of a distant mountain range that rises prominently in red against a bright yellow sky. At its feet, we find a bank of clouds; the valley is shrouded in mist and disappears into the blue. In the foreground, a black fir tree towers upwards, suggesting the image was captured from another elevation. Here, valley and mountain peak, blurriness and clarity, and metaphorically, the high and the low, the visible and the invisible, meet and bear witness to Evard’s mystical understanding of nature. The layered structure of nature presented by the painter, along with the symmetrical composition, allow nature and spirit to converge.
