Landscape with Tree and Red Sky, 1962

Evard created this miniature using ink on paper. With a light hand, he designs a landscape sketch using only a few black strokes. In the foreground, a tree rises from a meadow, with a lake behind it and a red-colored sky above. It is striking here that Evard adorns this sky with two diagonal blue bands of clouds, the depiction of which appears less naturalistic and is more reminiscent of his constructive work. Warm colors predominate in this depiction; the thinly applied ink allows the white to shine through here and there, giving the image an overall sense of great lightness and airiness. Here, Evard allows the various elements—earth, water, and air—to meet harmoniously, with the tree appearing as a unifying force.
