This still life series shows a glass, a bottle and a napkin on a table. The stylised design is strongly reminiscent of André Evard’s earlier rose series. The artist himself was deeply attached to the paintings. He owned this series of works throughout his life and marked them as “Proprietè Privée” (private property) on the back.

In all versions, the objects can only be grasped as contours. However, this concentration on the essentials of forms and on their geometry is also what makes the works so fascinating.

Equally exciting is the artist’s different approach within the series. While he still painted shadows in the first version, he did without this element of design in the following paintings and presents the motif in strictly geometrical shapes, clear lines and colour surfaces.

In André Evard’s art, colour played an important role and he experimented with different colour combinations in the “Symphonia series”, so as to evoke different impressions of space depending on the colour. This also resulted in a monochrome work in different shades of beige.
